Alex Gorodetsky

Alex Gorodetsky

Alex Gorodetsky is an Associate Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan. He develops computational methods for prediction, inference, optimization, and decision-making under uncertainty, with current research in multi-fidelity methods, Bayesian inference and learning in dynamical systems, and tensor methods for scalable scientific computation. His group applies these ideas in electric propulsion, fluid mechanics, radiation and plasma transport, and aerospace sensing, estimation, and control.

Alex is also Chief AI Architect at Geminus and Head of Geminus Labs, where he leads the science group and works on bringing physics-based modeling and AI to industrial operations.

Before joining the University of Michigan, Alex was the John von Neumann Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Optimization and Uncertainty Quantification Group at Sandia National Laboratories. He completed his Ph.D. (2016) and S.M. (2012) in Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his B.S.E. (2010) in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Alex received the Air Force Young Investigator Award in 2018 and the NSF CAREER Award in 2023.

Thomas Marks

Thomas Marks

Thomas Marks is an Assistant Research Scientist in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan and a principal investigator within the Computational Autonomy Group. He independently leads funded research on physics-based state estimation and autonomous control for electric propulsion systems, while also developing predictive engineering models of Hall effect thrusters through the NASA Joint Advanced Propulsion Institute and related programs.

His research combines low-fidelity fluid methods, high-fidelity particle-based kinetic models, data-driven techniques, and uncertainty quantification to improve simulations of low-temperature, partially magnetized plasmas. Thomas completed his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2023, where he studied data-driven modeling of electron transport in space propulsion devices in the Plasmadynamics and Electric Propulsion Laboratory.
